— Marian Sotelo-Paz

Our specialized fibrosis prevention treatment is your best resource after cosmetic surgery, designed to help you achieve the smooth, flawless results you desire. But what happens if you're beyond the prevention stage? How long does that stage last, anyway? Is revision surgery the only option? And how can these imperfections be corrected effectively?

If you're wondering about alternatives to revision surgery, you're not alone. Recognizing the early signs of post-surgical complications and taking corrective action can make all the difference in achieving the body you envisioned.

It’s essential to understand that these imperfections—like fibrosis, uneven textures, or contour irregularities—don’t always require surgery to resolve. Specialized therapies and non-invasive treatments can effectively correct many post-operative concerns.

Let’s dive into everything you need to know after your liposuction procedure, from recognizing the signs of complications to exploring innovative solutions and long-term tips for maintaining your results. Remember, your journey doesn’t end with surgery. By enhancing your healing process, you can achieve optimal outcomes and enjoy your transformation for years to come.

Fibrosis After Cosmetic Surgery: Prevention, Early Detection, and the Truth About Post-Operative Care

Fibrosis prevention is one of the most critical steps in achieving the best results after cosmetic surgery. At Medical Massage Professionals, our specialized treatments are your greatest ally during this process. But what happens if you're past the prevention stage? How do you recognize early signs of fibrosis, and what are the real options for correction?

The Importance of Prevention and Early Detection

The best outcomes after surgery are achieved through proactive care during the first 2-3 weeks—the critical healing phase when your body is most responsive to therapies like lymphatic drainage massage. Early intervention minimizes the risk of developing complications like fibrosis, which can cause thick, uneven tissue and disrupt your desired results.

However, misinformation about prevention is rampant. For example, the idea that excessive compression garments will “smooth everything out” is false and potentially harmful. Over-compression can impair circulation and exacerbate complications rather than prevent them. Not everything trending online is accurate or safe; relying on proven techniques and qualified professionals is vital.

It is a widespread misconception that receiving two massages daily is beneficial. In truth, the body requires adequate time to process and for the lymphatic system to function optimally after stimulation. Practices such as squeezing the surgery area, forcibly expelling fluids, or reopening incisions do not qualify as lymphatic drainage or post-operative care; in fact, these methods are not only ineffective but also illegal in many states.

At Medical Massage Professionals, we are committed to applying the proper techniques to stimulate your lymphatic system effectively. When the right methods are employed, there is absolutely no need to squeeze, force fluids, or reopen incisions. Trust us to provide the care you need.

It's important to understand that post-operative care, like any other treatment, is a multi-session process that yields the best results when it is carefully planned. It is unrealistic to expect that just two or three massages will be enough to prevent complications, no matter who provides them.

The Critical Post-Operative Phase: Why Timing and Protocols Matter

The first two to three weeks after surgery are the most critical for your recovery. During this time, your body is most responsive, allowing therapies to effectively reduce swelling, prevent complications like fibrosis, and enhance your surgical results. A consistent and properly structured post-op care plan is essential to maximize your recovery during this phase.

Session Durations and Protocols

For most procedures, the post-op protocol includes 10 to 15 sessions at the most over the critical phase 3 weeks. However, it’s not just about the number of sessions—it’s about the quality and duration of each session to ensure all treated areas receive the necessary attention.

  • Minimum Session Duration: For procedures such as Lipo 360 + BBL, sessions should last at least 45 minutes.

  • Additional Time for Extra Areas: If you’ve had other areas treated—such as thighs, arms, or a tummy tuck—an additional 15 minutes per area must be added to ensure adequate care.

This approach ensures every zone receives the attention it needs, reducing the risk of complications and promoting balanced healing.

Why Session Length Matters: An Example

Imagine a patient who has undergone Lipo 360 + BBL along with treatment for their thighs and arms. If the session is limited to only 45 minutes:

  • The therapist might only have time to address the Lipo 360 and BBL areas, leaving the thighs and arms untreated.

  • This could lead to uneven results, localized fibrosis, or fluid retention in the neglected areas.

  • As a result, the patient may require additional sessions or even corrective measures to address these issues.

It’s similar to following a recipe or instructions:

  • If a hair dye package suggests leaving the dye on for 45 minutes, but you wash it off after 20, you can’t expect the color to turn out as intended.

  • Or, if a recipe calls for roasting a turkey for 2 hours, but you remove it after just 45 minutes, it’s unrealistic to think the turkey will be fully cooked.

In the same way, proper session durations are critical for achieving the best results in post-op care.

By scheduling a 75-minute session (45 minutes for the Lipo 360 + BBL, plus 30 minutes for the thighs and arms), the therapist can treat all areas thoroughly in one visit, ensuring more consistent and effective results.

The Importance of Consistency

Consistency is just as important as session length. Missing sessions or spacing them too far apart can delay your recovery and reduce the effectiveness of your care. To achieve the best outcomes, it’s crucial to:

  1. Attend All Scheduled Sessions: Stick to the recommended plan during the critical two- to three-week window.

  2. Follow Time Guidelines: Ensure sessions are long enough to cover all treated zones comprehensively.

  3. Prioritize Quality Care: Remember that investing in proper post-op care now minimizes the risk of complications and the need for corrective treatments later.

A Protocol Tailored to Your Recovery, Not Repetition Without Results

Another key factor in successful post-operative care is following a protocol that progresses with your recovery. Simply repeating the same treatments, especially if they are ineffective, will not yield the results you’re aiming for.

Unfortunately, many candidates for our fibrosis correction treatments share a similar story—they’ve undergone 20, 50, or even hundreds of lymphatic drainage massages without seeing improvement. It’s heartbreaking to see people endure unnecessary expense and frustration, hoping that more of the same treatment will eventually work.

But here’s the truth:
If a method hasn’t worked after a reasonable number of sessions, it’s time to reevaluate the approach. Repetition of an unsuccessful method will not magically lead to success—it often worsens the issue, delaying proper care and driving up costs.

Is my actual treatment really working? Why Progression Matters

Post-op care isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” process. Your recovery evolves, and so should your treatment. A skilled practitioner assesses your progress at each stage and adjusts the protocol accordingly, ensuring that therapies are aligned with your body’s changing needs.

Let’s use a simple example:
Imagine trying to fix a leaking faucet by tightening the same screw over and over, even though the problem persists. At some point, you need to step back, identify the real issue, and try a new solution. The same logic applies to post-op care. When a method isn’t working, it’s time for a qualified expert to intervene with a more effective approach.

At Medical Massage Professionals, our protocols are designed to adapt to your unique healing process. We focus on delivering treatments that make a difference—not just more of what hasn’t worked. Your recovery deserves a solution, not endless repetition.

Post-Op Red Flags: Signs That Require Immediate Attention

While the post-op period is crucial for healing, complications can arise if the body isn’t responding well to the treatments or if the protocol isn’t being followed correctly. Recognizing the red flags early can make all the difference in preventing long-term issues.

Here are some signs that indicate your recovery may need professional intervention:

  • Lumps or Bumps: These can indicate fluid accumulation or early signs of fibrosis.

  • Uneven Areas: A lack of symmetry in healing might be due to improper fluid drainage or ineffective therapies.

  • Hardness, Stiffness, or Bulging are classic indicators of fibrosis or scar tissue formation, which requires specialized care.

  • Change in Skin Color: Any unusual discoloration could point to poor circulation, bruising, or complications that should not be ignored.

  • Change in Skin Texture: A rough, uneven, or dimpled texture might signal a problem that needs immediate attention to prevent it from becoming permanent.

Fibrosis FAQ’s

  • Fibrosis is a condition that requires professional qualified treatment.

It is necessary a consultation to assess your particular case and create a personalized treatment plan.

  • Fibrosis is a complex condition that cannot be fully assessed through a photo or video alone. To help manage your expectations, we will need to ask you a series of questions.

Since we are addressing a health-related issue with aesthetic implications, we are legally required to obtain your consent before proceeding with any questions or examinations of your areas of concern.

Please note that the Director and specialized therapists do not review photos, videos, or messages. All communications, including inquiries made through social media, are handled by our support staff.

  • A consultation will cover the following:

    • A review of your surgical history An assessment of your goals and expectations.

    • A determination of your suitability for our technique

    • An estimation of the number of sessions needed to achieve your goals

    • A quotation for the treatment plan

  • Many practices offer complimentary consultations, often conducted by an advisor or surgery coordinator. While these professionals can provide valuable information, their primary focus is typically on selling services.

Our practice takes a different approach. Marian Sotelo-Paz personally conducts all teleconsultations. As the founder and director, she brings expertise and innovation through her two patented techniques.

The consultation fee reflects the comprehensive time and attention provided by a specialized therapist who will carefully review your case and create a tailored treatment plan. This fee is non-refundable and cannot be applied to other services, ensuring you receive dedicated and focused care without distractions.

  • To schedule a consultation, please click on the button on the top right corner of this page or click here.

  • This is a formal teleconsultation; you must sign a consent form to proceed with the remote session. The consultation will last approximately 40 minutes and will be divided into three sections:

    • Step 1: Marian will ask questions and review your background, treatment goals, and whether those goals are achievable with our technique.

    • Step 2: She will assess the specific areas that require treatment. Please note that no additional zones of your body can be added after this consultation, and quotes will only cover the areas discussed during the evaluation.

    • Step 3: Marian will address your specific therapeutic questions.

She will not disclose her protocol, as it is a confidential component of her patented technique.

A report of findings will address questions regarding pricing, availability, scheduling, or other logistics. It will be emailed within 72 business hours after the consultation.

  • In-person consultations are possible. Candidates opting for in-person evaluation should follow the same process before we can assign a date for the visit.

  • We are unlikely to offer that option. However, please note that the evaluation lasts approximately 40 minutes. Due to time constraints, the report may be prepared within 72 business hours.

Fibrosis sessions typically last around 90 minutes or more, and we cannot reserve that time slot after a consultation without confirmation that the patient will proceed with the treatment.  This is the main reason we offer remote evaluations.

Additionally, because our technique is popular and effective, most patients schedule their fibrosis sessions weeks in advance.

  • The number of sessions needed will be estimated during your evaluation, where we can assess the severity of your condition. Your personal goals also play an essential role in this decision, as wanting to correct fibrosis to move and feel better is different from seeking perfection.

We will estimate the number of sessions during the evaluation based on various factors, but depending on the severity, the minimum number of sessions is generally between 5 and 8.

We will also conduct a follow-up assessment (three weeks after you reach the minimum suggested), but at this point, each patient knows how far they want to push their limits. When they experience the results themselves, they decide to continue with more.

While we generally suggest one session per week, patients traveling from other states often choose to schedule back-to-back sessions. However, no more than one session should be done in a single day, as your body needs time to rest. If you are considering back-to-back sessions, we recommend allowing one or two extra days in your travel schedule to provide a break between sessions.

  • Yes, depending on the number of sessions you are willing to do, we could divide it into two or three trips.  Your report of findings will have options for this.

We understand that taking several days off your regular schedule can be challenging, so we try to be as flexible as possible, within reason.

The entire treatment should be completed in six months; exceptions will be considered one-on-one.

  • We frequently have visitors from other states and countries. If you fall into this category, please remember that your stay in Orlando should be at least five days. You will receive treatment daily, excluding Sundays and Monday, and you may experience some discomfort since your body will not have enough time to rest and recover.

Please consider travel times, including flights and traffic, when planning your trip to our location. Keep in mind that there may be potential delays. We are very strict about our scheduling, and any disruption can have a cascading effect on our appointments. Therefore, we recommend that you plan your visit carefully and in advance. If you arrive late, we may not be able to complete your session fully, as we might have another patient scheduled afterward.

  • We do not recommend any other places for treatment. Our technique is patented and unique, and we use protocols tailored to each client's needs. No one outside of our Orlando location employs our method.

Please note that once you have arrived at our Center and become a patient, we only provide treatment, not advice.

  • The vast majority of our patients see significant improvement with five sessions. Occasionally, depending on the severity of your case, more sessions may be recommended during your consultation. If more sessions have been suggested and you have scheduled them, you will either need to stay in the area if traveling from out of town, or you may return within 90 days to complete your sessions.

NOTE: We do not offer fewer than five sessions to be performed. We are very accommodating in trying to fit your schedule to complete them within 90 days, provided that you agree that no other treatments will be done on the treated areas as they could impact the results.

Read the next question if you still consider one session over a planned treatment.

  • We offer individual sessions for fibrosis, but there are several factors to consider when choosing this option. It's important to remember that imperfections after liposuction or cosmetic surgery often result from multiple unsuccessful treatments. Expecting one session to correct all these imperfections is unrealistic, primarily because we lack background information and a structured protocol.

Correcting these imperfections typically requires a multi-session treatment plan that yields better results when appropriately followed. Since individual sessions have not undergone an expert evaluation, we cannot estimate the required sessions or provide a protocol, as we would in a planned treatment plan.

Our practice prioritizes treatments that are consistent, effective, and tailored to your specific needs. While we highly encourage patients to adhere to a comprehensive treatment plan, we understand that some may prefer individual sessions.

A multi-session treatment consists of a planned series of therapy sessions designed to address specific concerns and achieve optimal results over time. Instead of scheduling individual appointments one at a time, a multi-session approach allows for a structured and personalized plan that ensures each session builds on the previous one for maximum effectiveness.

If you still prefer to choose a single session, please be advised that the therapist will not estimate the number of sessions needed, provide advice, or answer questions during this time, as those discussions are reserved for the consultation.

  • Yes, and choosing the right schedule can make a big difference in your comfort and results.

We recommend one session per week to allow your body time to recover, as swelling naturally subsides between treatments. For patients treating multiple areas, back-to-back sessions can be intense, making it harder to manage post-treatment discomfort.

However, we understand that scheduling constraints exist, and we can adapt our protocol to accommodate back-to-back sessions when necessary. For the best experience, we strongly recommend leaving at least a day or two between sessions whenever possible. This allows your body to respond better to treatment and ensures a more comfortable recovery.

Our priority is your results and well-being, so we’ll help you find the best approach based on your individual needs.

  • Yes, results should not vary significantly. However, back-to-back sessions can be more intense, and discomfort levels may require the therapist to work more moderately. We recommend spacing sessions by a day or two whenever possible for a more comfortable experience.

  • Fibrosis itself is a painful condition, and its correction may cause some discomfort depending on individual pain tolerance. However:

    • Pain tolerance varies from person to person.

    • Discomfort typically decreases as the sessions progress.

    • We apply a topical numbing cream to prepare the treatment area and help minimize discomfort.

  • No, there is no downtime. You can resume normal activities immediately after your session. However, mild tenderness or temporary swelling in the treated area may occur, depending on individual response.

  • In medicine and therapeutic treatments, the word “guarantee” is not used because every body reacts differently. While we apply specialized techniques backed by years of experience, individual results vary based on factors such as the severity of fibrosis, skin type, and healing response.

What we can guarantee is our commitment to excellence. Check our unmatched results online and compare for yourself. Most of our patients come to us after trying everything else first—and that speaks for itself.
